The Master, Lara McKay welcomed the Dean of the Melbourne Graduate School of Education, Professor Jim Watterston to Formal Hall on Monday 8 August, 2022.

Professor Watterston spoke to Formal Hall about his career as a Teacher in metropolitan and outback indigenous community schools, as a Principal, a Department Deputy-Secretary and a Dean as well as the joyous experiences and challenges that came with such a career in education.

Following dinner, Professor Watterston delivered a Fireside Chat in the SCR on the topic of “The Future of Education” moderated by Wade Institute Program Director, Andrew Middleton.

Leaders from schools across Melbourne joined in the Fireside Chat discussing issues such as the artistry of teaching, education administration and compliance, curriculum delivery and pedagogy, the teacher shortage, connecting with experts, education policy, student wellbeing and innovation as part of what lies ahead for education.

 

In addition to the teaching and education alumni who joined the evening were Wade Institute UpSchool school representatives, who are in the process of gathering the skills, resources and confidence to deliver entrepreneurship to school students.
