Great wins for Ormond’s Soccer, Softball and Swimming Teams!

Ormond’s sports teams are having a great run of success this semester with back-to-back premierships in women’s soccer, swimming and softball.

Soccer

Ormond’s women’s soccer team made it back-to-back premierships this year in a hotly-contested season of Intercollegiate women’s soccer. Progressing past St Mary’s & Newman in the preliminary rounds, they played International House in the semis (winning 1-0) before meeting St Hilda’s in the finals. The final was a close game needing a second extra time to decide the match. The winning goal was scored with only a few seconds to spare. The captain was Brighdin Walsh; Best & Fairest: Alice Maxwell. Bindi Bryce was the top goal-scorer for the team.

Swimming

Ormond’s swimming team eclipsed the opposition for the second year in a row. The team won overall, with the women’s team coming first and the men’s team second. With finalists in every event, highlights included Kate Sommerfield’s wins in the women’s breast stroke and 200 metres individual medley, victory for both women’s relay teams, and a thrilling victory by the men’s freestyle relay team over Trinity by 0.01 of a second!

Softball

Ormond won the women’s softball premiership again this year. After an unbeaten run to the finals defeating Kendall, Whitley, IH, St Mary’s and UC, the team crushed Trinity in the final 18-5. The captain was Jess Jones; coach Billy Thomas.
