OCDC produces a 21st century Peter Pan

The Ormond College Drama Club is celebrating its production of J. M. Barrie’s Peter Pan last week. Five packed performances at the Guild Theatre, Union House, were seen by over 500 audience members.

The production took a decidedly darker twist on the original script while retaining the original vision, juxtaposing the whimsical and childlike elements with darker scenes and characters.

Ormond drama is a huge community undertaking. Over 100 students auditioned to be actors back in May, with 29 actors eventually selected. In addition to actors, over 20 students were involved in the crew work, and all production, direction, sets, lighting, and costumes were achieved in-house.

The Drama Club has been rehearsing and planning continuously since June, culminating in Play Week during the mid-semester break.

The performance had to be evacuated on Friday night due to a fire alarm in the Union House. While waiting for the all-clear from the fire brigade, the cast gave an impromptu performance to the audience on the Union House lawn.
