Ormond College Rowing Dinner 2022 Recap

It was wonderful to see so many in the Ormond Rowing community return to the hallowed halls last week for the inaugural Ormond Rowing Dinner. Over 140 Ormondians, friends, current students and staff enjoyed an evening of celebration and commemoration as the highly prestigious King’s Cup also made an appearance on the anniversary of its 100th year as an Australian citizen (and was appropriately spooned in)!

Ormond rowing royalty was also joined by Ian Robson (CEO of Rowing Australia), Barbara Fenner (1976, World Champion Rower, Olympic Selector) and Andrew Michelmore (1971, World Champion Rower, Board Member Rowing Australia, Former Ormond Council Chair). Barbara gave a stirring speech on the history of women in rowing that had the audience completely captivated. Andrew (Ag) shared reflections on the remarkable life of Ormond’s own Clive Disher (1912) who was instrumental in bringing home the King’s Cup, literally, a century ago – an amazing tale indeed.

Judging by the warmth and camaraderie in the room, the evening was a resounding success and a fitting tribute to the special place rowing holds at Ormond.
