Ormond Connect Mentoring Program Launch

The Master, Lara McKay welcomed student and alumni participants in the Ormond Connect 2nd Semester 2022 mentoring program to NAIDOC Week Formal Hall on Monday 8 August, 2022.

L-R: Lani Tressider with her mentor Sarah Herrod (2003), and Dr Bronwen Slater (1985) with her mentee Suranjana Gulati

25 third-year and graduate Ormond students had applied to the program, which has seen alumni from as far as New York, London and Amsterdam volunteer as mentors in this 10-week mentoring program designed to support senior students through the transition from university studies to work or further studies.

Students were led through an information session with Ormond College Senior Careers Advisor, Sandy Cran prior to meeting some of the alumni mentors over dinner at High Table.

Alumni mentors who attended the dinner include Sarah Herrod (2003), Dr Bronwen Slater (1985), Dr Stewart Ryan (1983), Edgar Myer (2008), Eleanor Ryan (2012) and Dr Kari Gleeson (1980).

Edgar Myer (2008)

Students and their mentors use the Ormond Connect platform over the course of this 10 week program and have three suggested milestones to complete.

Milestones tend to entail career discussions, CV reviews as well as job application and interview discussions, among other things.

Dr Stewart Ryan (1983)

Ormond College plans to expand this mentoring program into 2023 for alumni-to-student mentoring as well as alumni-to-alumni mentoring. Please do sign up to the platform and ensure your details are up to date.

Thank you to all alumni who have expressed their interest to volunteer their time to help current Ormond students in the pursuit of their desired careers – it is greatly appreciated by the entire Ormond community.
