Vale Ian Keith Bainbridge (1950-51)

Ian Keith Bainbridge was born in Melbourne on 20th June 1930 and attended Scotch College from 1938-1947.

He went on to study Engineering at Melbourne University after finishing school and started his graduate studies in 1948. He spent his first year unit at Mildura, because of the overcrowding of the University in Melbourne after the war. He then returned and lived in at Ormond College for the remainder of his degree. After graduating in Mechanical Engineering at Melbourne

University in 1953, Ian travelled to London to work in a graduate apprenticeship with British General Electric as an engineer, before returning to Melbourne to work for ICI Engineering. He met Wendy (nee Sharpe) and they were later married on 5th March 1965. They were married for nearly 58 years.

Ian was diligent and had a long and rewarding career at ICI from 1953 to 1992. He was a trusted project manager, which led him to working and living in Sydney, where his daughter, Robyn, was born, Newcastle, where his second daughter, Helen, was born, Adelaide, America and England, with numerous side trips to ensure his projects were meticulously managed.

Ian died in his childhood home in Balwyn, with his family around him on 26th October 2022. He is survived by his wife, Wendy, daughters, Robyn and Helen and two grandsons, Ben and Sam.

Ian lived an amazingly selfless life and was a great role model for his family. We will miss him terribly and love him to the moon and back.
