How you can connect your students with Ormond
We offer several ways to help careers advisors introduce Ormond to their students:- We have two open days a year in May and August. This is a great time for your students to visit and have a tour of the College taken by our students.
- We can come to your school and chat with your students.
- We can organise a virtual tour around the College with some of our student ambassadors. This is a great opportunity for your students to get a firsthand sense of what life at college and university is really like.
- You and your students are always welcome at Ormond. We can offer campus tours and lunch or dinner in our iconic dining hall – contact the admissions manager.
- We are more than happy to send you a supply of our undergraduate brochures for you to have on hand.
Application and selection process
Students apply for Ormond through the intercollegiate portal by clicking the apply now button on our website.Students only make one application for all 10 colleges and will be asked to list their preferences in order. They must put Ormond first on their preferences to be considered. We ask students to supply the following items:- A personal statement: This should be a short narrative detailing why they have chosen Ormond. There is no prescribed length or content for this but it is an opportunity for the student to demonstrate their understanding of what Ormond has to offer. It should include what they hope to gain from being at Ormond and how they see themselves contributing to the community.
- Character reference: Although students are asked to give the names of two referees on their initial application to the colleges, we prefer that the student sources the reference and emails it to us. They can ask one of the referees they put on their initial application if they like. We do not contact the referee on their application form directly. It should be from someone who has known them for a decent number of years (3+) and who can attest to their good character. Some examples of referees are sports coach, year level coordinator or employer.
- Application fee: Once students have submitted their application, they will receive an automated email with a link to our payment portal for payment of the $75 application fee. Please note that this email can often end up in junk or spam folders.
Financial assistance
At Ormond we don’t offer merit, sports or academic‑based scholarships but we do have a financial assistance program to support those students who would otherwise not be able to come to College.Financial assistance applications are separate to the application for residency but should be submitted at the same time, or shortly thereafter, if possible.- Anyone can apply as long as the family income is below $300,001 before tax per annum.
- Financial assistance allocations are based solely on the financial need of individual students.
- Each application is reviewed thoroughly by our financial assistance committee to ensure that the funds available are allocated to those students most in need of support.
- The outcome of applications is advised parallel to the outcome of the application for residency.
- Applications are made via our online application form.
- Families will need to have their current tax year notices of assessment available to support their application.
