A mid-sem adventure! 🏕️ Ten Ormondians took o

A mid-sem adventure! 🏕️ Ten Ormondians took on a 3-day, 2-night hike along the Great Ocean Road with the Active Society, covering 50km of stunning views and trails. 🦘

🌊 From setting up camp and cooking together to soaking in the coastal scenery, it was the perfect way to recharge after a busy start to the semester 💛

“We must help our friends, our families, our loved ones and our colleagues to become familiar with the truth of Indigenous history; the beauty of our culture and our heritage. It’s a very practical thing you can do.”

On Sunday September 22nd we had the privilege of hosting Indigenous activist and author @thomasamayo for the annual Renate Kamener Oration. In his speech, Thomas reflected on justice and recognition for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people following last year’s Voice referendum and discussed his new book, ‘Always Was, Always Will Be’. He shared reasons for optimism as well as the need to resist polarisation in the media and the urgent need for policy consistency in Aboriginal affairs.

Some guests included former Foreign Affairs Minister Gareth Evans AC, KC; Her Excellency Professor the Honourable Margaret Gardner AC (Governor of Victoria); Professor Glyn Davis AC and Professor Barry Judd. Dinner following the event was hosted by our Vice Master, Dr Areti (Ari) Metuamate. Guests were invited to share their reflections on the oration, with the common theme being expressions of hope for the future, from students, alumni, the Kamener family and staff.

Last week, we celebrated the second year of the student-led "Nostrum Futurum" (Our Future) Dinner, proudly supported by the College.🌛

The event celebrates the culmination of the Ormond College Mentoring Program, strengthening relationships that have been built throughout the year. A special thanks to Senior Careers Consultant Sandy Cran for her invaluable work in pairing students with their mentors. ✨

We also extend our gratitude to keynote speaker Professor Rob Moodie (1972), and to student Jennifer Wu and her committee for their dedication and hard work in making this event such a success.

It’s always a pleasure to welcome alumni back for student-focused events. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed their time and look forward to welcoming even more alumni in 2025!
