Spot an owl Australian Boobook Owls and Tawny Frogmouths love to visit our campus. You’ll spot them nestled among the leaves in the Quad, perched in the trees overlooking the Melbourne University Oval and keeping watch in the Ormond clock tower.
Attend the Ormond Ball An iconic event on the Ormond calendar, the Ormond Ball is a chance to take a break from study and kick up your heels.
Earn an Ormond scholars gown This one will take a lot of work, but it’s worth it! Ormond Scholars gowns are awarded to students each semester for outstanding academic achievement. You’ll need to score an H1 average across your uni subjects before you slip into that fancy cloak with the golden trim.
Get a gig on campus Whether it’s brewing coffees in the JCR or editing the Chronicle yearbook – a job on campus is not just a convenient way to earn cash, it’s a chance to meet lots of people.
Take part in the Buroinjin Cup Buroinjin is a running-and-passing ball game traditionally played by the Kabi Kabi people of South Queensland. It’s played with a ball made from roo skin. Every year, as part of National Reconciliation Week, Ormond students compete in the Buroinjin Cup against neighbouring colleges on the Melbourne University oval. A great tradition that draws a big crowd.
Tread the boards Ormond productions are always a blast – and lots of students take part, even if they’ve never acted before. Recent productions have included Chicago and Into the Woods. Not so keen on the limelight? Work behind the scenes in the costume or lighting department.
