At Ormond, you do not have to figure university out on your own. You have tutorials to think things through, study sessions to stay on top of your work, and a dedicated learning team who will back you every step of the way.Tutorials: small groups, big differenceOrmond students can request tutorials for most UniMelb subjects. Every week, you'll meet in small groups to unpack the key ideas and themes. These sessions are led by Ormond tutors who are experts, researchers or alumni who have studied the same courses you are taking now.Tutorials are designed to help you understand the material, not just memorise it. You can ask the questions you did not get to in lectures, work through past exam problems or join discussions that stretch your thinking beyond the course outline.Study sessions: structure with supportFor some subjects, Ormond runs weekly study sessions. Think of them as focused, collaborative study time with backup. You work alongside students taking the same subject, with a tutor nearby who can explain difficult concepts or help you stay on track. The tutor is there to support you, not to run a formal class. You decide what to focus on. Whether you are preparing for an assessment, revising lecture notes or working through an assignment, there is always someone around who understands what you are doing.Studio sessions: for creative disciplinesIf you are studying something hands-on like music, design or fine art, Ormond offers studio sessions instead of tutorials. These are practical workshops led by professional artists and performers who help you refine your craft, workshop ideas and develop your creative voice. You can rehearse, get feedback on your compositions or talk through the theory behind your practice in a space built for experimentation and growth.One-on-one consultations: targeted help when you need itSometimes you just need some individual time. Consultations let you meet with your tutor to go over something specific, like a difficult concept, an assignment or a question that has been bugging you. They are not private lessons, but they are great for clarifying details and getting personalised advice. Usually, you can access consultations if you regularly attend tutorials or study sessions.Achieve your goalsAll of this is designed to help you succeed in your University of Melbourne degree. Ormond’s academic program bridges the gap between large lectures and real understanding, giving you the time, structure and people you need to learn deeply rather than quickly.Over time, it helps you build habits that make a real difference: showing up prepared, asking good questions, managing your workload and knowing when to seek help.
